Well, those who fib about where they are from: it is as if this feature were never there. So that doesn't make much of a difference to them. But for those who actually want to use it and don't fib, it would be useful for them.
It would be especially nice if one could create national teams, as you suggested.
That does not affect the page but also improving because it's a date, however it would be good to know.

Why do you need a flag anyway? I don't get it. Maybe so we can abort game with anyone from India (like other chess sites) because they are mostly wanna be hacker cheats lol.

I didn't say it didn't exist, thi, I meant they might be easier to find/invite. Also, they do have "language" flags but they're based poorly on nation (like the UK flag for "English," the French flag for "French" and so forth, which as a linguist I definitely understand are completely worthless as certain dialects can even be problematic for speakers of the same language).
I don't see a reason not to necessarily add such a feature to the profile, but it seems pretty low on the priority list honestly.
I second Wulfsige. It is not a priority on the `to do` list.
