yes please add other tournament styles like swiss

First of all thanks a lot Lichess for offering such a nice chess platform! We play a lot of tournaments in Lichess these days. However we also experience some disadvantages of the Arena mode:

Even when you are playing a tournament with 15-20 players, it is possible that you are paired three times in a row to the same opponent. This can be very annoying. And a side effect is that quite often the numbers 1 and 2 of the tournament didn't play even one game against each other, because they were paired again and again to the same other player(s).

--> It would be a nice solution if the pairing algorithm would not pair the same players two times in a row. So that at least you have one other opponent in between. That would make it already much better in my view.

--> Besides that would Swiss be a very nice option! I hope Lichess can make this work. Thanks a lot in advance!

Yes, please add support for swiss and round robin!

I do organize a weekly tournament in our club for those who don't want to play the arena format (as arena has a lot of shotcomings, especially when there are few participants). I do it manually with pairings software and a video stream of me combined with a chat channel. It kind of works, but it is a hassle. Distributing the pairings and getting people to challenge each other with the right parameters makes for to much room for errors. An automated system would be very, VERY welcome!

If it's a Round Robin or Swiss or Arena system, I hope when we get the same player a second time, the colors will automatically alternate from the last time we played. That way the present Arena Tournaments could behave a bit like a Double round robin also. Maybe delay the wait for pairing a bit more if we already got paired twice with the player.

During a tournament colors should always alternate between the same pairings.

Yes, the pairings are difficult to understand in Arena since it is so different than what chess players experiences - Swiss or Round Robin.

We really need the round ROUND ROBIN TOURNAMENT mode, especially in this lockdown moment. Our club in my country wanting to organize small tournament exclusively for club members and of course with prizes. Sad to say the tournament mode here in lichess isn't give us an option.

The arena mode can be compared to the swiss system. First the weaker ones are drawn by lot against the stronger ones. The further the tournament progresses, the more it becomes similar. You are drawn more and more often against equally strong opponents.

Unfortunately, that's not my experience. When you're done with your game, Lichess wants to pair you as soon as possible into a new game. If another player does not become available very soon, he will simply pair you again to the opponent you just played against.

Yesterday I organized a tournament with 9 players (7m+10s). The number 1 played a total of 13 games, of which 9 (!) games against the same opponent who eventually finished fourth. Against the number 2 he wasn't paired even one time (!) and against the number 3 he only played once. This way you get a very unbalanced tournament. In my view it would be much better if Lichess doesn't pair you against someone you played the game right before. In that case you might have to wait a little while for another opponent, but you will get a much more varied and balanced tournament.

Question to the developers of Lichess: would this be possible? Thanks a lot in advance!

But this only happens when there are too few participants! @Fivelgo and 9 participants are few.
