We used to call it poetry but now it's called hip hop.
We do it from the time we rise and we don't ever stop.
It makes us feel all hard and city, but listen close:
it can be pretty! Not like a sunset or a ditty
or even like a pretty kitty, but rather like a fitting end:
a farewell to a dying friend!
Farewell old friend, you're back upon the shelf!
But let's be clear. I'm talking to myself!

Being young only happens once.
Overly protective.
Overly nervous.
Overly killjoy.
Overly mature.
Making mature choices often,
Gives a bad light,
To those,
Who doesn't think,
About later.
No, I don't wanna drink.
No, I don't wanna smoke.
No, I don't wanna vape.
No, I don't wanna pill.

Thinking about the bigger picture,
Thinking about the consequences,
Thinking about the future.
Hard to find a balance,
Between fun and smart,
To enjoy, but not destroy,
To fit in, but not screw up my life.
It's hard on my mind,
Overthinking,
Over stressing,
Overprotecting.
Over planing.
The thoughts inside my head,
Screaming at me on full blast,
Confusing with my conscious,
Running my life,
Not trusting my gut.
