Unfortunately lichess just had a bad patch. For maybe a hour or so, it's been laggy, then offline. All is good now.
Long story short, the hosting company had network issues. Lichess uses several servers, and the network between lichess main server and lichess primary database server went very wrong. We moved lichess to a new server that is not affected by the network tempest.
