Russian & other languages in forum

I know that sometimes it is better to speak in our native languages, to express ourselves like we really want!

But you have to understand this website is not country-restricted we all have to speak a common language to interact with the whole community.
If some people create topics in Russian, others in Spanish or in Portuguese...why are we in a website for the whole world?

Please speak in English so that we all understand and everyone takes the most out of the forum :)

But if you really need to speak your own language, lichess.org has the TEAMS section where you can gather up with those who speak the same language as you do! There are teams for almost every country.

Cheers!
I agree. If you have a sufficient command of the English language try to write your messages down in English as much as possible. That way the entire community can enjoy the conversation.
Russian people love to argue))) and these disputes are always very hot with lots of unprintable words and phases, which are mostly untranslatable, only russians can understand, ))) i think it's better you don't know russian otherwise you might be very insulted))))
I studied Russian for a few years at university, and I've got to say, looking over the Russian threads, that there is an awful lot of insulting and swearing.

This site is generally aimed at people 13 and over, but there are some younger users. Would you be able to lower the tone, or move it to a more private location than the public forums, if you're going to swear and curse at each other so much.
Such we are, nothing to do with it. Russia is multination country, and not only russian people speak russian and very often there are conflicts based on national lines. For example, I hate tatars, caucasian and similar national minorities. I have reasons for this. Russia is my home and I want to live here safe, calm, love russian girls and have no problems. But this 4% of population are really splinter in the ass and i don't know what to do with it((((((. I think only physical violence is the only way to solve the problems. They are not humans, they are stupid monkeys and they don't understand the words...(((( It's pity but nothing to do with it((((
But i want to add that fortunately last few days passions are subsided, and we have unspoken truce. Will it last long it depends only from them..... But i can't stand aside and be calm when some faggots pour dirt on things that are holy for every russian: they are his nation, his religion, his family and his girls....
Learn to be tolerant. I've lived in Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and the Ukraine. Calling other humans 'stupid monkeys' is offensive and racist, regardless. There's some groups of people I'm not particularly keen on myself, (narrow-minded and derogatory people), but physical violence is never the key.

I'm also going to have to insist that you don't use the word 'faggot', it's really uncalled for. Plus, as I said earlier, remember that this is a website where children may play - including Russian children. And I am sure you wouldn't want a young Russian child to see you call someone a cyka, or telling someone to powel ha xyu, etc. Bear that in mind - that there may be children here, and try to keep a cool head.
Maybe you're right, but i never begin first. Tolerance is the worst word in the world i think. I can be patient from time to time but i will never be tolerant. These words are not synonyms, if you studied russian you shoud know the difference...
@Cynosure, so you want to disallow swearing because of younger users? Why, do you want to protect them from the misconception that such things as swearwords do exist? Really, both the internet and real-life world are full of insulting and swearing, and it doesn't matter if they don't face it on one tiny chess site. Supervising the way people talk wouldn't change a thing, it would just make maintaining this site more laborious.

For the main point of the thread i would say that yes, it would be nice to understand what other people write on forums. But still, is it so important that it should be controlled? And creating a clearly one-language-only thread isn't really any different than writing on a team section. If you see a thread that's not in English, then just skip it. And also, not everyone is able to speak English even moderately, so how could we force them to speak it? (We could, but it would be morally dubious.)

However, on grave situations such as slander etc., moderating should be in place.

Ps. props to Cyxapb_ForeveR___ for giving a good example what kind of language we all should be able to stand.
Jepulis, I never said anything about disallowing swearing. Sometimes swearing is just unnecessary, and some words/terms may be perceived as worse than others. I'm not going to say to ban it, or anything. But I can't think of many occasions on a chess website where you're going to need to call someone "stupid monkeys" or "faggot", which is pretty uncalled for, I think you have to agree?

I'm not saying ban it - I'm just saying, maybe think if the occasion warrants you using that terminology - and you'll probably find it doesn't.
