Cheating on Lichess. The Myths

to me the solution is simple: make it illegal to cheat

then whenever you have a cheater, grab their ip address and whatever other info you can dig up on them and hand it over to the authorities
Plawo if you think that's the solution you have never been a network administrator for anything. It isn't so simple, IP's are not always static, IP ranges can host hundreds of users, etc. Even just from the standpoint of banning (ignoring your silly joke about making it illegal and handing it over to authorities) it's just not a viable solution. Authorities have enough trouble finding those engaging in legitimately illegal activities, IP is overall an ineffective means of branding someone it's only a single tool in terms of tracking someone's activities and can't be the only method.
Also, #12 - first time was immature, second time was childish, so I guess that makes you an infant? Or a lemming. I suppose if the rest of the internet jumped off a bridge you'd jump off with them. ;)

In teams and even more in big groups like a community it's easy to underestimate what's going up in other peoples mind.
If I and you don't see a problem in cheating and don't feel to much harmed does not mean that cheating has no effect.
Since a few years I'm observing teams and groups in communication and acting. I'm sure we ("lichess") should not ignore cheating. But some more "don't care about" voices and I organize myself some chips and a good dip and watch relaxed the next half year what will happen and how admins and community try to fix the tension between players, the image, and the lost trust..
as chessplayers we should know to solve problems before they become problems.

#18 I don't really see the "don't care about" voices; most of the voices that may seem to give you that idea are likely just suggesting that people complaining in the forum about cheating will not be able to do a better job of catching cheaters than lichess moderators do. While I don't completely agree with this myself; it is very true in many situations.
generally speaking the people who "dont care" about cheating are themselves cheaters and should be looked into by the Cheating Investigation Authority very closely
