Consider this sentence:
“Lost forced checkmate sequence. The best move was Rxf2+.”
Better English would be:
“Missed forced checkmate sequence. The best move was Rxf2+.”
I think 'lost' is the correct word in the sentence? You are pursuing or chasing a sequence - if you lose track of the sequence - then it is correct to say it is lost.
#2 has a point. Missed could imply that forced mate is still possible but was only missed for the current turn.
Then again, almost all chess literature refers to it as 'Missed'. Thibault's choice. :)
A complete non-issue.
It doesn't mean "lost the game". -.-
"Lost" is equally as appropriate as "missed".
