disconnect and claiming victory

I'd be tempted to agree with galaxie-500 and nizzle. It is a nice feature that we don't need to wait until the clock runs down no matter what, but maybe it would be more fair to allow the one who disconnected just a little more time, depending on how long the game should last too.
For example, a third of the time remaining with a 3-minute cap for longer time controls? (sounds reasonable enough in order to reboot pc and browser)
i could live with that, ya...wether 3 min cap or anything else reasonable is left to discuss/decide, but least that would account for 'longer games stake longer then shorter games' ;)
+1, adaptive time please, have lost a couple of games already for minor network connections..
I'm with #13, leaving a note and blocking is the best way to handle it on our end as players. Follow people who have ethics and you'll see the people they are leaving these notes about and you can block them as well and never have to deal with them.

That being said, in terms of the OP, there needs to be some leeway for valid disconnects. Is there a way for the system to check the person's connectivity to see if there was some degree of intermittancy prior to the disconnect rather than an absolute drop (from rage quitting the game). I feel like if there is intermittancy indicative of a connectivity issue, maybe there should be a longer clock before the dialog displays, whereas if there is just an immediate disconnect maybe only a short time allowed for the player to return? I don't know maybe the system already does this?
