Sometimes it's difficult to ignore the flies. How different is humanity to the rest of the living? Not something one aught to think about too often. ;)

Well, the anatomy of online chess is that mouse slips are going to happen, and if a move is obviously a mouse slip, than I always give take backs, but if its just a bad move and isnt hanging anything, than I wouldn't accept the takeback. I do however, have the ability for my opponent to request a takeback turned on.
No takebacks, because we are free. If we were determined, takebacks will not exist; so as said above: we can decide and if we make an error, it is our responsability and, take backs are just the correction of an error you made by your freedom. You freedom must end when starts the other's, and if I say take backs are evil, it is because, they are!

I don't give takebacks for several reasons:
1. I dont want to be bothered with such decisions. I want to focus on the chess.
2. It feeds a bad attitude. I don't want to enable people who made a mistake thinking that they are entitled to blame external factors on it and have this mistake undone. The more you allow it the more they will try it.
3. I want the game to be fair and I never request takebacks either.
I do sometimes make exceptions when playing against friends and they mouse slipped or I want the game to be more interesting.
Takebacks only in casual games. In rated games it doesn't make sense, even if mouseslipped. In OTB tournaments, if you touch your piece, you have to move it, which can be equivalent to mouseslip. And noone would ask for takeback OTB.
Maybe, the "ask for takeback button" should have the same function as resign button :D
I agree with #26, I allow takebacks only in casual games.
This topic comes up from time to time and I fully agree with StefanGER never granting or asking for take backs. You´ll never experience any difficultulties, disturbances or misunderstandings. You are always playing on equal terms!
However one of my reasons is never mentioned. Due to my age (72)
I must sharpen my concentration when I play. I need at least a time frame of 10+0 to feel comfortable. It´s annoying to play with those people who ask for take backs again and again.
No, I don't. imo takebacks don't have a place in any strategic games.
